Mountain Biking in Madeira Island - Discovery Island

This is a pleasant, fun and ecological way of getting to know Madeira’s mountains. Discovery Island Madeira proposes to provide unforgettable moments in bicycle tours on earthen roads, protected natural areas or small villages.

This tour starts in the second highest mountain in Madeira, Pico do Areeiro, at 1818 metres, surrounded by breath-taking views.

On the way we go through the Montado do Pereiro natural park to the levada da Serra do Faial (Camacha). The route goes on, crossing Santo da Serra, and finishes at the viewpoint of Portela, with an amazing view over Porto da Cruz.

The route covers some 35 kilometres, and is considered easy.
